These new softies came out butt first.
Ouch ouch ouch.
A deliberate journey far from the usual
bits of frippery to a strange and distant land.
The travel was bumpy.

Right now they feel a tad alien,
teratogenic,
but mother and child are bonding.

but mother and child are bonding.
It was a journey to the world of opposites. Whereas previous designs were roughly stitched,
laden with color and embellishment,
the new lot are sleek,
monochromatic,
and anthropomorphic.

Last night they woke me up to say they wanted arms,
and had to have their own softies.
It's a full moon,
and they'll do that, you know.
Travelling to the polar opposite of one's regular
way certainly is refreshing, not to mention scary.

What did I learn from this adventure?
It reinforced certain design elements,
that are simply me. They are part of me.
Part of my language of making.
That language was defined more clearly by
deliberately making the opposite.
Thanks little weird softies for the adventure,
you may be an endangered species.
Have you ever done this?
Was it weird and did it help you grow?

I enjoyed your post "Legacy" and would definitely say that your creations, artwork are far from ordinary. I have no doubt you are making a mark and putting your twist on every day just as Pauline did. Best wishes, Tammy. Best wishes, Tammy
ReplyDeleteWhat charming creatures!
ReplyDeleteLove these creatures. Warm, odd, and somehow open. I really want to touch and talk to them. Hugs Karen
ReplyDeleteI love quirky and these softies certainly fit the bill. For some reason I imagine they speak softly, persistently and nineteen to the dozen.
ReplyDeleteLove the new take on "creature"! They are just great.
ReplyDeleteI admire how they insist on accessories and nothing slapdash, thank you. Music from the 60s(?) Bless It's Little Pointed Head...I looked it up...Jefferson Airplane, apropos of nothing. But the, relatively, pointed head...you know. They've probably already sent telegrams - they don't seem like texting types - inviting all their relatives to come, telling of the birth and their wonderful new home. xo
ReplyDeleteHere in the States, we believe in the right to bear arms.
ReplyDeleteOi LERVE these oi do oi do.
ReplyDeletethey are... they are...well they are very LOVABLE.
Oh, I so wish I could express myself as you do, but you've nailed it. We each have our own 'language' of creating and yes, things are made clearer by trying different methods.
ReplyDeleteYour new softies are sweet with their own softies tucked under their 'arms', but I love your roughly stitched, brightly coloured and embellished pieces.

I love odd and quirky.. shows the creative side of an artist.
ReplyDeleteHearty congrats for a)birthing a new creation
ReplyDeleteb)enjoying a new adventure
c)sharing the joy (and pain!)
and for insightful ponderings amidst marvellous musings. I am fairly sure growing up is over-rated. Don't. Do. It.

yes in a round a~bout way...
ReplyDeletei like your new~old creatures... they're strong and beautiful.
They may be weird but they are rather wonderful! When I go off piste it takes me quite a while to come around to it and only when I see things through others eyes do I begin to understand....
