A recent community pollshowed dog lovers in the Inner West
spend more on their pets than their partners.
I love her sassy rhymes. She takes his canine peccadilloes
and creates an ode:

Mongrel Dog! Houndy Woundy!
Eats treats from the street
And stuff that he's found...y
He growls, he snores, he barks, he farts
And most of all he is lion heart!
Mimi is not afraid to stitch straight onto canvas, something I view with trepidation.
One wrong stitch and it's a hole forever.
She is also not afraid to charge for a comission,
Something else I admire.
I asked for a Waratah, New South Wales' flower
and also a symbol of spiritual strength when times are tough,
and she rendered it beautifully, squeezed in his favourite penguin,
and included a guerilla knit as well.

MimiLove says she is one woman,
a needle, a paintbrush,
a disturbing music back catalogue in her brain
and too much time on her hands.

ReplyDeleteHoly gazoonga! Such beautiful, heart-felt work. It's wonderful you now have your very own commission - It's like a gorgeous snap shot of things you love.
ReplyDeleteI'm off to check out more of her work now!
Oh My! I really think she might be able to 'do' a bold blue heeler, don't you?
ReplyDeletewhat a great idea and such watercolour talent! You are right about the hole in the canvas but if you used finer needle with finer thread it might be more forgiving. This is so cool! My pooch approves as well- and yes, I spend way more on him than any other living being! He is worthy...
ReplyDeleteAn almost "priceless" treasure for one special dawg! It's a wonderful piece of art.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fabulously personal treasure!! Love the poem the gorilla knit and the penguin!! PERFECTION!!!!
ReplyDeleteShe has also embroidered and painted her magic with a Budgie, Pinocchio and a few hens too. x
ReplyDeleteWoo hoo. That is brilliant. Haven't seen a pet portrait like THAT before. Not ever.
ReplyDeleteAfter reading that little ditty I do believe that your Hound and mine share a few common traits-farting, snoring and eating dubious stuff especially! It is a fantastic portrait - love that it is a sweet but a bit edgy - perfect for you I think Denise!

ReplyDeleteEven Hound's penguin. Again, I am humbled and thrilled by the undreamed-of forms of expression that quietly labor on outside our vision. It is enough to make you really, really believe that all things are possible.
