giveaway!

Not this!
Nope I am teasing you.
These will be around in my new etsy shop, constructed as soon
as I finish poaching in my own sweat.

Rambling Rose has come to be poached as well.
A visitor from blogland,
Rosie will be doing hound's makeup
and filming the giveaway.

First Prize: Your choice of Hallowig in these splendid colors.
You know you want one.

Second prize: Your choice of Hallowig
in these splendid colors.
Yes I'm giving away two.

The Hallowig,
of Knitty fame, has always been available as a free pattern.
It has a "tangy" rating as far as difficulty goes, but I'd say it's
more "all day lemon sour". If anyone has any tips
on how to get the shaping right, let me know.

Third prize: A copy of Stephanie Pearl Mc Phee's book, the Free Range Knitter.
Read all her books;
she takes the mystery out of knitting
and puts the laughs back in.

She says: "It is a well-known fact that knitting
is a sparkling form of entertainment,
as spiritual as yoga, as relaxing as a massage,
and as funny as Erma Bombeck trapped in a PTA meeting."

And if you miss out you can order it here,
or go to my still under construction,
soft opening new etsy shop .

See Ms Disordered? It only took me two years.

Oh, hang on you have to perform
a trick dont you? OK, well, uhm...

Tell me the single most thing that takes away
the blog enjoyment for you.
Diminishes your bloggy experience,
either as a reader or a writer of posts, or totally switches you off.
And if you say goofy giveaways selected
by grouchy dogs I'll send you
the hounds latest artpiece when he's done chewing it.

  1. I like your hatty wigs or wiggy hats. The book sounds good. I am much better at reading about knitting than actually doing it! Generally not too much annoys me in blog land. As a reader I prefer simple pages to look at and I find black backgrounds difficult as reading the tiny white text does my eyes in! As a writer not too much really. Happy nearly Christmas!

  2. I would love to win one of those, of course. I think I can become impatient with overly-complicated prose intended to impress and/or convert the reader. The best writing to me is the most straightforward, and also that which allows for a reader to enter into discussion.

  3. ohhhh the wiggys, I love the orange one, its the greatest!
I don't like pretentious blogs that post obscure reviews of films and bands that noone has ever heard of, they always seem to hate anything people actually HAVE heard of. Does that make sense? XD

  4. Well grrl I'll count myself out of this one then! It wouldn't be seemly if I won when I'm doing the hound's make up and filming the giveaway (insider information!!!) Love the hat pic's and am so enjoying my stay here! thank you for the sharing and generosity.

  5. I forgot to say if I was eligible for me the turn offs would be
    1. No images and a whole lot of words
    2. No essays please! I haven't got time!
    3. A subject I've no interest in whatsoever!! Like car mechanics!!

  6. having to use a computer...

best wishes for the giveaway season and may your knitting hands live on forever

  7. I love your knitting so would love to enter your give away. What you do, I could never do myself. I never did get the hang of knitting.

The thing that makes me switch off the most is paid advertising on blogs. There is nothing worse than visiting a blog full of wonderful artwork or creativity surrounded by ugly intrusive adverts for tummy tucks, fat busting pills and teeth whitening. The other thing that has made me un-follow blogs has been when the blog author has gone privacy mad and added the copywrite banner to every single post. Isn't having the statement clearly marked once on the side bar of the page enough to get the message home?

But, I am glad to say that there are so many more things that I enjoy about blogs than dislike.

I am having a felt give away. Please feel welcome to put your name down :)

  8. I would love to enter. Thank you for the chance.

  9. The single most thing ... Mmmmm that's a tough one ... possibly the rigmarole of leaving a comment, which doesn't apply here, if only Blogger would make it simple!
Love the wiggy's but I'd look even more ridiculous so hope I'm a chance for the book please ;)

  10. HA! Those are the bomb...and I sure wish I had one *now* while I'm residing in the Arctic Tundra!
(okay, only till tomorrow...finally heading home!)

My number one annoyance is quite simple...poor spelling/grammar. It drives me up the wall. I know it's judgemental of me, but I can't help it. I've completely given up blogs because of it.

Other than that, I'm totally with Sarah. Poor background/text color choices....or music set to autoplay.

  11. I would love any of the above..... maybe not orange because it makes me look sallow. Thanks Grrl!

I think lots of adverts put me off a blog as well as loooooong screeds without photos unless it's a scintillating topic. Short screeds without photos is ok. Interesting blog photos are good!

  12. I might upset some people with this comment, but I hate it when the giveaway person won't post internationally. Sure it might cost a little bit more to post but it is a wonderful gesture and promotes the right spirit of blogging.

  13. Hi Denise!
    Lovely hatwigs!

I do not like at all when people add too many gadgets and snowfall and cursor-traces... which makes the blogg so heavy it takes ages to load it.

  14. Très sympa ces chapeaux, on en veut d'autres aussi rigolos! Dommage, j'habite en France et vous ne pourrez pas m'en tricoter!!! I hope you understand my language or perhaps some of your friends will translate my message? Bye

  15. Love the Hallowigs - especially the blue - that is one of my colors ! It would be hard to do the guerilla dog walking leaving art about thing with it on here in Manchester, NH, USA where life can be very Vanilla Ice cream most of the time. Good thing I am no vanilla girl !
Have to say that the word verification, choose an id, type in your mama's maiden name and give a sample of your dna to leave a comment thing gets to me sometimes. But I do have to say that the joys of Blogland far outweigh that annoyance !
Hope the grouchy gets replaced by joyful asap, talented, colorful Denise !
    Cheers !

  16. I love the pink one! So adorable and fun.I'd love to win. I'm just reading the first Yarn Harlot book now and it's a trip.

I hate when people threaten to sue me over blog comments. Happened to me yesterday. Bizarre as I am far from being a pot stirrer. Lol!

  17. Love the orange one - memories of hair past!
What bugs me? emotioncons or whatever those icky smily faces are called and anyone who uses the letters L and O and another L to mean laughing so that folks can hear you. That and initials to signify one's dearest connections. Just don't!

    ReplyDelete
  18. I dig the pink wiggie.

My bloggy joy is quashed often knowing that my ex-boyfriend reads my blogs. I, therefore, cannot post anything about my "real life" only make veiled allusions.

I like lots of pics in blog posts and I feel guilty if I haven't posted in awhile.

Thanks for hosting his great giveaway!

  19. My biggest peeve is probably crappy spelling and grammar, which would definitely include lolcat speak.

Would love to win one of your prizes (preferably Stephanie's book).

    Thanks, Nicola

  20. oooooh I can't wait to do some shopping in your shop!! You do great work!
Blogging killjoys?.. I will have to agree with some of the other commenters about bad grammar... but another thing that annoys me is a blogger who auto replies to comments!ugh
Killing my own blogging are two things.. the TSA killing my second digital camera! A knitting blog needs photos.. and losing my own grouchy dog! sigh..motivation a bit deflated in general!

  21. I must mostly read lovely blogs, I don't have a lot to complain about... don't like paid ads, that's about all I can come up with at the moment.
Love to win that book.. :)
Love your work, too. Where can we get those scarves?

    ReplyDelete
  22. oh dear. i've read the other comments and must admit i'm guilty of white text on black page - makes the pix look better though
but [in my favour] i have posted goodies across water

it's hard to isolate a single peeve [easier to outline the things one really likes]
but folks loading huge picture files that take ages to appear on the screen and chew up my internet usage tend to lose me fairly quickly, no matter how fascinating the subject matter

delightful as the wiglets are - that book is singing a happy song at me from a distance

    ReplyDelete
  23. Hmmmmm, yeeeesssssssssss! Your shop is so super!

    ReplyDelete
  24. I have always admired the wiglets- - reckon everyone should wear one...Nothing bugs me about blogland- it is all optional really no body is forced to do anything in blogland. Ads can be annoying, I guess but if someone has their blog cluttered with ads and pop ups I just go on to the next. It's all good....

  25. ughhh GAWD

people that lament their depression and hard times

    zzzzz

    I have my own problems....

    xo-S

ps. Kisses and well wishes for the opening of the shop!

pss. I would be happy with just a photo of Darling You in one of those wigs !

  26. okay not entering twice

but thots of another blog peeve to vent :

...when people write in the comments

    and you can totally TELL

that they didn't read your post

    they scanned it

or got to like the third photo

    and wrote a comment

with what they THINK your post was about !

It's so awesome that you have asked this question and opened the flood gate (for me)

    laffffffinnggg

    ::wine::

is it rude to answer blog comments when you are drinking ?

    Happy Holidays- mwah!

  27. hmmmm, I may be the only one in the whole world-- but I don't like it when there is music as soon as I click on the blog post-- I would like the choice of listening or not-- my computer does not seem to like it either as it takes longer to download the blog post.
your posts have opened up the world of gorilla knitting- thank you.
    peaceful new year to you.

  28. my entry....

It's that every time you search/new blogs or regular one's. Some one has up dated, bigger and better, Computer jargon.... I find that a little down heartening. But I try, keep trying ;-) Bloody trying, my husband would say.

  29. Hey GRRRRL! You look fab in your colorful wigs. And congratulations to you on your etsy shop. I am so very happy for you. Looks like I picked a good time to come back and visit - all the reasons I hate blogging have to do with personal guilt. Family has taken me away from regular posting and creating. Don't get me wrong - I love them all so much. I hate to blog the really personal things about illness and death and there hasn't been other stuff to write about so...I feel guilt for not posting and guilt about putting life on hold and guilt about ignoring my creativity. BUT...I am working now to change it and thrilled by wonderful beings like you who keep working and creating and inspiring us all. Hugs all around.

  30. 2 YEARS?! That's nothing! I can promise an online shop or a giveaway, or a book in a box, for DECADES without delivering! Don't try to out-delay me, missy!

These are fabulous. I am not a knitter, but I want all colors of that beautious thing.

    Happy Yule!

  31. oh, I forgot to say what takes away my blog enjoyment. Well, it's mostly my own weird mental glitches. Like, when no one reads it, I take it personally. Or, when I haven't posted for awhile, I feel like a horrible blogger. But mostly, I LOVE it that we can express, share, and visit one another from around the whole world!

    Rock on.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I hate thinking I am not making a connection with anybody on my blog.
that there are just things called words and pictures there but nobody feels anything looking at them.

    it's disheartening to think about....
however, if art was certain, it wouldn't be fun or exciting or interseting or personal. so I try not letting it bother me too much.

  33. I've never seen anything like those before and I love it! :)

  38. Love the technicolor flips!

As a blogger, my issue is my own difficulties in posting regularly, feeling anxiety about it. I know that my problem is due to how long it takes me to create a post - and that's due to pictures and perfectionism. One of these days, I'll manage to fix it, though, as I'd like to post more than 3-4X a month!
