Gone.
Less than 20 hours of wooly life.
Less than 20 hours of wooly life.
I stared in disbelief while Dad chuckled.
Gone.
Gone.
and the release of ownership once it leaves my hands
to enter the public domain.
I could even wax lyrically Buddhist about impermanence, and that
to embrace change is the only way to view life.
I could bend like the willow in the face of the wind.

Truth is I was pissed off.
That's one of the recovery steps isn't it?
Denial and disbelief.
Then get pissed off.
Then get revenge.
I'm sure of it.

This grrl has the right idea.
Solidarity.
Even the mangy condom has remained on her fist.
Some graffiti artist's work has lasted longer than mine.
Like another wise person once said, "Don't get mad, get even."

So slide grrl got some leg warmers. The sculptor is John Dowie, maker of some fine Adelaide public
art pieces and my favourite since a child, Alice .

Slide Grrl's leg Warmers:
Cast on 18 stitches on 4mm needles.
Knit a 2x2 rib for 6 rows.
Change to stockinette.
Work in the stripes of your choice while gradually increasing to 35 stitches
Over approximately a 13 cm length.
Make the last 6 rows a 2x2 rib for the top end of her legwarmer.
And dont forget to smile for the camera.

ohhh I feel your pain! two of my recent 4 knit ups got taken away - (damn parks dept!) but I will not be discouraged
I LOVE the way the knit up leg warmers bring such a level of fun free wheelin' joy to the sculpture
yeah for yarnarchy once again!
Your revenge was so sweet ! I think it surpassess the original by a mile. You go, grrl !
I know how you feel, my snake got taken. Although I knew there was a good chance the second time I put it up. And that's it, you just gotta keep making. The statue is wonderful with the leg warmers.
Zen is good for when nothing is happening, or when writing an artist statement. Pissed is good for when someone takes down your work.
YAHOO! You are brilliant! LOVE the leg warmers- so improves the sculpture- and makes people smile! YAY Grrrl!
turning the heel as opposed to the cheek? rotten mall-nazis!!
the legwarmers are socking-hot! damn!
Perfect.
way to go and stylish, too (with my knitting skills, the girl would be wearing lacy, punky leg warmers with the look of ripped fishnet).
OMG..........
I so wanted it to be there in 2 months when I will be visiting down town Adel. Instead I'll take the challenge & learn to knit those lovely warmers & give slide girl some spring fashions. And maybe I could whiten my teeth for the camera !
Keep doing what you do so well.
cheers
nice one. I can imagine the fuss in the council offices as officials meet to discuss the new phenomenon taking over the streets and. if you're lucky there might be some big ugly anti guerilla-ing signs going up soon (on poles)
My first thought, if it's anything like the usa: a homeless person saw them and could use them, so......
or: another person thought they'd recycle them somewhere else.
Uh, endless possibilities, no? ; )
Ah what sweet revenge. Look at all those people, paying attention to something, great though the artist might be, have otherwise have walked past, smiling. See what you did. YOU did that. Nice feeling huh! Not just a knit graffiti artist, but a knit comedian as well.

For Grrl!
Not even 20 hours, now that's criminal, crappy tag type graffiti in the UK gets left up for weeks until they finally get some one to scrub it off. But a beautiful knit in Pink and Red didn't make a full 24housrs Oj oj oj
It's all wrong
yikes! that was fast! however, I'm loving the leg warmers! :)
Exactly correct- Disbelief- then get pissed off...then act. I read that in a self help book.
mmaaaaaannnn! may their finger rot off who took it down!
LOVE the leg warmers!!
just the right touch
:)
Is Defiance your middle name?....love the leg warmers!
Love the leg warmers, poor Alice is probably very grateful with all the cold weather.
Interesting that crap graffitti will be left for days even months but a thing of beauty is removed so promptly.
Keep up the great work, the visitors are enjoying it, I'm sure it's the locals with their heads buried who scurry by.
Thanks for popping by, I found out later there are lots of bag tutorials on google, did I think too look....
I AM sorry for you loss. Damn vandals. Love those leg warmers. I'm crossing my fingers that she doesn't lose them!
I can totally relate to your loss. When I went back to see the knit-up that Jill and I put up a few days later, imagine my shock when the tree was naked! Naked! By some lucky twist of fate, however, the knit-up was safe and sound in the nearest garbage can. And now... it awaits the right new home!
I was all ready to post you a book on the grieving process but I think you have sorted it out yourself......well done!
I bet the tree was pissed too, poor thing must be freezing its pods off
That poor tree is looking decidedly glum without it's pink stripes. I do love slide girl's leg warmers. Wheeeeeeee....
I, for one, am sooooooooooooo grateful you felt the need to get even!!! what a most excellent and FABULOUS display of GRRL power!!!!
Oh my gosh! I love your revenge! Adorable.
grrl, i'm glad you've had your revenge, and a beautiful one it is. as a fellow guerilla artist i have felt all those emotions many times at even the mere THOUGHT that what i'm putting up may be taken down and ripped up in less than 10 minutes. it's humbling... (to realize i'm so petty, that is)
it seems like a long time since i've been here... you've been up to a lot of good stuff. i am sending you love...
xo
What wonderful revenge!!! Those leg warmers really make a statement (and look fantastic on a cold winters day!!!).
I cant believe they took down your knitups. some people just dont appreciate art! Disappointing, but the leg warmers make a statement!

Great blog and sense of humor!! love your profile description...
robin
Well done with those leg warmers...maybe they'll be perceived as art on art and they'll stay awhile....
